Who ever built it may have put the solid link in place. I dont like it. If the nose drops down the tire is only going to take up so much of the energy. The rest is going to try and flex the nose gear at the bracket. I have not done the math but some of the load will go to the firewall. Your nose weight is what, probably 380-400lbs.
FAA part 23 says you have to be able to handle 2.25 x the static nose gear weight. I'm thinking about switching from the rubber disk to a spring/shock combo. There are some for mountain bikes that would handle the load and have about a 6" eye-to-eye distance. Search for mountain bike shocks.

Thanks heaps mate this is perfect!jchisolm wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 8:44 pm Here are some pictures of mine. It's been sitting in a box for a long time.
Mine does not have a lower bolt hole. I dont remember if I got it from Wheeler or Larry Olsen.
Looking for specs on the rubber disk has been difficult but I did find that Vans RV10 and RV14 use a similar nose gear setup. The loads on the RV10 would probably be somewhat similar to a Wheeler. The interesting thing is Vans uses 4 disc, like a Money NG. Where as Wheeler only uses 2.
I wonder if some of the nose gear issues are related to the shock strut bottoming out because there are not enough disc.
Hopefully this will help you.

Re: nose gear suspension
That is how mine is without any suspension at all.
I was thinking maybe a bike shock would work in this position?

found some good info in older posts.
Originals had solid brace and latter had rubber mounts.
there were failures of the rubber ones and some have recommended to stick with the solid one.
Thank you to all that have helped its great to have help from you guys!

Re: nose gear suspension
well i have finally picked up the plane and found in a box the rubber suspension part so the question is should i fit it or keep the solid link
Re: nose gear suspension
Speaking of Nose gear suspensions, does anyone one have one available? I broke my gear this past weekend and am on the hunt for a new one. If anyone has one or knows of someone who does, please let me know. I just need the arm itself. My fork and rubber support are fine.
