Rib R?

Post by pilotniner4 »

I have a set of wings (CT model) that I am working on. I bought this kit partially built and the previous builder installed the Rib R for the standard landing gear. I have the Grove aluminum gear upgrade, which uses a different Rib R. My question is do I need to remove the standard rib and replace with the upgrade, or will the standard be able to support the aluminum gear? It looks like it would work the brackets fit, and in my head it makes sense the load should be the same. I am just unsure if the standard would support the aluminum gear. The wing is still open so it wouldn't be the hardest thing to remove, but it would save me some work

I added 6 additional plies of cloth to each side of the original rib, with the ends lapping onto the spars. With the heavier gear bracket it has held up well.
